Minecraft Interview with My 6-Year-Old Son

ABOUT THE MINECRAFT INTERVIEW
My son talks about Minecraft every day. He plays the game most days, too. I’m always fascinated by the creations he comes up with. For a 6-year-old, I feel like he is good at Minecraft.
I was sitting on the couch with him one day and I thought a Minecraft interview would be a fun exercise for him. A Minecraft interview would allow him to explore the reasons behind his passion. Minecraft has taught him many skills including improving his reading and writing skills.
ABOUT MY SON AND MINECRAFT
My son started to play Minecraft when he was 5. He was learning to read but not well enough to understand text in books and video games. He would look at Minecraft books and want to mimic builds he liked but couldn’t read the instructions. This frustrated him often.
Within weeks of picking up his first Minecraft books, he started to read. I was so excited for him. His frustrations vanished and he began mimicking builds by reading the instructions in the Minecraft books. Once he finished a project, he’d show it to me. I never got that much into Minecraft but I will say that I have been impressed with what he accomplishes.
It’s been about a year and a half now and he reads and builds like a champ. His growth has been amazing and I owe some of that growth to Minecraft.

The Minecraft interview with my son is not edited. What you read is exactly how he replied to my questions. I should have audio-recorded the Minecraft interview. If you can, imagine an excited voice from a 6-year-old boy when you read the answers.

IS MINECRAFT YOUR FAVORITE VIDEO GAME?
Yes.
WHAT IS MINECRAFT IN YOUR OWN WORDS?
It’s when you build and mine. You can do many stuff, too. There are villages and Minecraft add-ons and so much to build anything you want. You have a whole world to explore.
There are so many biomes such as deserts, grasslands, and also, just like a lot more biomes that are in real life.
WHY DO YOU LIKE MINECRAFT?
You have so many places to see and a whole world to explore. I can find villages that I like to live in. It’s beautiful.
I like to build tall buildings. My house is beautiful with furniture inside. You have all these things you can build within your inventory. You can build anything.
It’s so much fun.
WHAT MODE OF MINECRAFT DO YOU PLAY AND WHY?
I play creative mode because I’m not old enough to play survival mode.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO IN MINECRAFT?
To build. I’m talented at building houses, roller coasters, and hotels. I am an engineer when I build. I can be a scientist, plan what items I need to build and be creative.
WHICH BIOME IS YOUR FAVORITE AND WHY?
My favorite biome is the jungle. I find houses with traps in them. There are secret treasure chests. I can climb the vines and look around the whole jungle. I found a fortress with traps and a treasure chest. Some steps go up and down. The trees are tall with lots of shade.
DARTHCRAFT
My son did Minecraft videos called DarthCraft for a while but is currently on break. Maybe he will get back to it one day. Until then, you can enjoy the few videos that he did.
